I’ve recently become a volunteer for an organization called Academic Memories. They are dedicated to helping high schools through post-grad students with resume and CV building, as well as cold emailing and looking for labs to join. They offer an abundance of resources and were created by a post-grad from UC Davis, who is studying cognitive neuroscience and has years of experience working in labs.
The main aspect of this organization is blog writing, specifically focusing on neuroscience and psychology. It is completely voluntary and you can choose to be either a writer or an editor. To write, you need to write a sound scientific blog at least once every season, it is one every summer, winter, and fall; although two are needed for fall and winter. To be an editor, you need to edit the same amount of blogs within a two-week period from which the blogs are completed.
I have been a part of this organization since July and have read so many amazing blogs, from my experience as a first-generation college student to how dopamine plays a significant role in schizophrenia. The community of writers and editors is like no other and helps you through whatever questions you may have. I have had so many of my college questions answered and help regarding contacting labs and applying to college. They share so many amazing opportunities for everyone and are very supportive of your growth in whatever path you want to take. Because their focus is neuroscience and psychology, everything they share will be in relation. Those in the organization range from high school students to grad students and they have a variety of experiences from which they can offer advice from.
If you are interested in joining and strengthening your knowledge in neuroscience and psychology, as well as gaining experience in either professional writing or peer-reviewing, I have their website attached!
