Almost every person you can ask will say they have a sweet tooth. It is known that the craving for sweets is partly hereditary and through others, caused by personal development and taste. Many may also enjoy eating sweets because it is similar to the production of dopamine, where eating something sweet is caused by systems of the brain that cause ‘high-rewarding activities’. This causes the ‘feel good’ chemicals to be produced and continue to consume candy to feel the ‘happiness’ it causes.
Candy is made of sugars, primarily glucose which is a needed source of energy for the body and the brain. There is a necessary balance for everything we consume to help our body. Sugar is needed in our body but we must regulate our consumption. Overconsumption of sugar can lead to diabetes, and hormonal changes, and can cause early Alzheimer’s. Besides that, it can cause a dopamine overload in the brain and will require more sources of dopamine to feel the effects. Not only that, but it can cause health problems with the liver and kidneys.
Sugar is needed but in regulation, as our brain continues to need frequent stimulation, which leads to tolerance. Tolerance like this can cause issues, as mentioned earlier it will require more and more dopamine which will not only cause harm to our body, but to our brains as well. We must moderate our sugar intake and make sure we are getting only the needed amount, but little treats now and then are not harmful either.
